Hoi An “is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century... The town reflects a fusion of indigenous and foreign cultures (principally Chinese and Japanese with later European influences) that combined to produce this unique survival.” What you see today is a townscape built during the 17th and 18th centuries, which still includes 1,107 timber-frame buildings and a street plan that once allowed customer access from the front of them, and convenient off-loading of goods from boats on the river. 1. Walk around and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site When you walk around the well-preserved ancient town, you’ll see the influences of Vietnam, China, France, and Japan. There is an entry fee at the gate of this preserved area. It is 120,000 VND (5.38 USD) and the ticket is valid for 24 hours, thus if you visit the town for two days, you can come back with the same ticket for the next day. The ticket comes with mini 5 tickets for the temples within the preserved area. The entry fee is used for the preservation of this World Heritage Site. Go to An Bang - Hoi An's beaches Around 6kms from downtown, An Bang is making its new stream of visitors welcome with deck chairs, palm frond umbrellas and there’s a great range of restaurants serving everything from delicious local seafood to western dishes. Sunbathe on the sands, take a dip in the ocean, and watch as kids frolic and play on the beach. Visit Tra Que vegetable village Tra Que vegetable village is a source of fresh vegetables for Hoi An and an interesting stop if you’re cycling towards An Bang beach from the old town. Many of vast number of herbs and vegetables that find their way into Vietnam's delicious cuisine are grown here. And it’s all said to be organic too. The people are friendly and the whole place is peaceful and beautiful. There are small tourist eateries and cooking classes run around the garden. Tailoring Hoi An is also famous for its tailor shops, which are everywhere, and shopping in Hoi An and having clothes made is one of the top things to do in Hoi An.
